12:20 pm - Coffee
I don't feel that I am ready to give up coffee. Sugar, yes, dairy yes, coffee itself- no. But I can't handle straight coffee- are there any macrobiotic coffee drinkers here that use non-sugar/non-aspartame alternatives? Does Stevia exist within macrobiotics, or does it's sweetness throw it into the far reaches of yin space?

My goal is to eat a lot of brown rice and learn to make a wicked veggie-laden miso. I am excited by that- it's this whole coffee conundrum that's making me itch. I'd like to find a coffee alternative that would feel guiltless, but I'm thinking 'one thing at a time.'

Addendum: I'm wondering about brown rice syrup and soymilk in decaf? What do you think? Would that be macro-minded?

Also- when you go to cafes with friends or by yourself, what do you order?

01:26 pm - Soup!
I just made miso soup for the first time ever from scratch. I know, I know, it's really easy to make, but I am a disaster in the kitchen and SO proud of myself!

04:45 pm - Hola!
Hi everyone! I'm new and looking into beginning a macrobiotic diet.... It's so different than my current diet that it is a little overwhelming, I must admit.

Can anyone suggest a good place to grocery shop?

Hello there. I have a question for anyone/everyone:

What might you suggest as a way to prepare sea vegetables for someone who doesn't like sea vegetables?

(I'll probably cross-post this to other communities as well.)

10:44 pm - Hm...
Well, i've been away for quite sometime... I mean this both figuratively in terms of lj and literally in terms of Macrobiotics. I'm hoping to find my footing with the latter. (i'm not really looking to blog in ye old eljay anytime soon).
Anyway--
if i were to "diagnose" myself... i'd say i'm waaaay too yin. i need a lot of guidance though. i'm still in college eating what dorms provide, etc... HOWEVER! I do have an electric stove.

Any advice/guidance etc would be appreciated....

08:31 pm - organic produce
If anyone else lives in the Detroit area, I found a farm in Yale that does weekly delivery of freshly picked, organic produce for a price that works out to about $29/week. It's a lot of food!

check it out at http://www.maplecreekfarm.com

Ok, so I decided to do an internal cleanse. After much staring at the shelf at both GNC and the local natural foods store, I selected a 15-day cleanse called Thisilyn. Click if you like FIBER!Collapse )

I just bought Macrobiotic Way by Michio Kushi...and I simply love it.
My husband was just diagnosed with high cholesterol and he is only 27.
His entire family has it(they are italian and eat very high fat diet) so it was bound to happen. However since i do all the cooking I am in control over what goes in his mouth now. I have been eating organic for years and now is the best time for us to finally switch over to the Macro lifestyle. I have thrown out almost all processed foods in the house. I still have kept the brown sugar and honey since my father comes over and needs honey with his tea or he will freak.LOL
I am having a hard time though convincing my husbands family members that diet does directly effect ones health.
I am glad i have a place like this to vent about it since i feel so alone in this uphill battle.

i'm new here and fairly new to macrobiotics as well. i've been reading all the stuff i can get my hands on and practicing for about a month now. actually i was a little disappointed to see that there are hardly any groups on lj. oh well, maybe this community will pick up some, who knows...

my favorite book thus far:
the hip chick's guide to macrobiotics by jessice porter.

my favorite recipe thus far:
grilled tempeh and broccoliCollapse )

things i need to invest in:
pressure cooker,
pickle press and a
flame deflector.

my favorite things from the health food store:
any thing from macrotreats.
rice dream carob mint ice cream with hip whip.

so, in a nut shell, nice to see everyone here and i hope to maybe share some good recipes and ideas with you all...

Hi.I'm the one who has been moderating this community for a while, after Heidi left LJ. I've never had much to say, but I have kept a watch over things. Since it being the new year and all, I' decided I can't do it anymore.

So if you are reading this, and you want to take over, email me @ humble human 2012 @ yahoo.com
